Hi ,Just joined this site and I am wondering if anyone out there has a 04 craftsman DYT 4000? I purchased this a week ago and it's burning oil bad. Could it be the head gasket? Also has a problem with the Hydro bucking going forward. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks, BigMike

Post model number from under seat, engine manufacturer as well as all numbers from engine, example if B&S engine: model xxxxxx, type xxxx, trim xx. Check air and fuel filters for replacement as well as spark plug. It sounds like your going to have to tear it down & replace piston rings, rework heads etc. Check drive belt & idler pulleys for replacement under chassis.

Thank you, I will check all those things first before the breakdown. I'll take this on for my winter project.

Mike, Only problems engine related. Trans has been bullet proof but never abused (e.g. plowing etc). The Intek V pushed #1 exh guide (rebuild #1), then ate and digested a pushrod (rebuild #2). Gory details with pics in this forum. Guys are sick of hearing about it. motoman

It's hard to believe that this is a kholer engine with so many problems on this model. 917.273664 I also have a 2002 john deere that has a kholer motor and we have worked that so much and we have not had any problems with that motor. I think it's time to write a letter to the company.

Thanks,
BigMike

Mike, Mine is Briggs Intek, not Kohler. Many still swear by Briggs
