One of the main reasons I went from a tractor style mower to a zero turn was to be able to mow quickly around flower beds and other features on my property. With that being said that caused me to need a chute block for a few areas. So call me cheap, but no way was I going to spend $200 plus for one. In comes my DIY creative side in trying to build my own. I wanted cheap, simple, functional and low profile. So below is what I have came up with so far. I am still tweaking and testing before I do the final sanding and painting etc.
-cheap: I have around $70 dollars in this project with almost enough parts to make a second one.
-simple: very few moving parts, only had to drill two small holes in the mower “both for eye bolts”
-functional: the location of the knob makes it really fast and easy to bump the block up and down. It also allows for full range of cut height adjustment.
-low profile: when down in the blocked off position, the system sticks out past the deck only 1 inch. When in the raised position it sits flush with the deck so you can mow in tight areas.

It doesn’t really lock, it is just held up by spring tension and then the weight of the flap itself holds it down. I’m going to have to add just a little more weight because it pops back up on its own from time to time. It’s still a work in progress.
