Dixon vs ?

I've never had a ztr, but I'm going to purchase one by next cutting season. I've looked at the Hustler Fastrack, Scag, Xmark, and yesterday I looked at the Dixon DX152. To my inexperienced eye it appears to be comparable to the others I've viewed, but beats their price by about 800 to 1,000 dollars. I'm looking for durability, reliability, quality cut.
I'm a homeowner cutting about an acre, so I would expect any of these mowers to last a good long time.

Can you provide experiences / opinions on the Dixon, and any preferences you have with the reasons.

Dixon was recently acquired by Husqvarna, and the dealers around here dropped the brand because of having to deal with Husqvarna.

That's a lot of mower.
As fish stated, Husqvarna owns Dixon now, so there's a lot of tech blending going on. My mower is a blend of the DX152 and the Ultra52, except painted orange. Other than the Kawi, and the 11gal tank, my mower is the same as that for $2K less. At your price point where you are now, any mower is going to give you what you want, its just your color preferences.

I like the idea of getting essentially the same mower and saving two grand. I can easily replace a motor in 10 years at that rate. On the DX152 I'm looking at $4,800 and $100 for the mulch kit plus tax. How much for the Husqvarna and what model is it? How long ago did you purchase?
Actually I would prefer a smaller gas tank, but I guess I can just fill a larger one to 1/4 capacity.

What did Husqvarna do to cause the local dealers to drop Dixon?

If you are getting that for $4800, then thats a steal. Prices I've seen for that model are in the $7K range. I paid $5200 for mine in May, but closeouts $ are now lower.

As far as the acquisition issue goes, Husqvarna takes forever to provide repair parts. Like, they go to kill the cow when you order a hamburger long.

Thanks for the info RatRacer. I don't need a $7000 mower for what I have. On a big day I cut 2 acres---just can't see it.

RatRacer, I was mistaken. It's not the DX152 but the Ultra 52 I was looking at. It does have the same transmissions as the DX, but has the Kohler Courage Pro engine instead of the Kawasaki.
Any further thoughts anyone?

That's pretty much the same as mine, with some minor design differences and no ROPS. It comes down to the motor confidence. My mechanic loves B&S, and assured me that my choice would be backed by his ability to keep me running.
Above all, test drive it. Make sure you like it, and it meets your desired standards. Ask about the mechanics resume, or anybody else that may touch it, and their ability to properly fix or maintain it. Service after the sale is just as important.

Same here all the Dixon dealers have vanished except for a few. What else have you looked at?

wjjones, I've looked at Hustler, Scag, Xmark, and Bad boy. While most of them cost more than I want to spend, I've been drawn to the Hustler Fastrack and equivalent Scag in 48", or Fastrack in 54" (Scag 52" goes up even more than Hustler 54"). I'd appreciate any ideas, info, guidance.
