Hello everyone,

I currently cut my yard(about 3 acres) and my fathers yard(about 3 acres). We have an old Toro semi-commercial mower that's on its last leg. Test drove many new commercial ZT's.(gravely, scag, exmark, husqvarna) Decided on Gravely, was able to get a Gravely Pro Turn 252 out the door for $8000. Did I get a good deal?

Also, 9 year old Echo trimmer needs to be replaced. Would like to replace with semi commercial string trimmer. Give me some ideas on your favorite trimmer.

Thanks!

Welcome to the growing Gravely family on the forums!!! Did you get the Kawa engine or the Kohler EFI? It's hard for me to believe that the Kohler is approx. $600 MORE than the Kawa(it would have to be VERY stingy on gas to be worth more than a Kawa). Even with the Kawa, you got a "decent" deal with the current Haggle Free Pricing showing $8,799(plus taxes). You saved around $1k on it which ain't bad this time of year(I bought my Pro-Turn 152 in September(buyer's market) and saved around $1,300. WOW, seems like lately my fingers are getting tired welcoming new Gravely owners to the forums:0)
You would have been hard pressed to get a similar machine in the other brands you looked at for $8k OTD......and that 252 will handle those 6 acres without breaking a sweat. If you want a great add-on, I can HIGHLY recommend the Gravely mulch kit(it will make grass clippings a thing of the past). Enjoy your new big boy toy!!!!

What would you do if we all said you got took hook line and sinker? Take it back? Hate it? Temper tantrum? You ask guys if you got a good deal and sooner or later you will find ones that convince you that you did not. You must have thought it was worth it or you would not have paid for it. I would enjoy my mower. Not worry about a better deal. String trimmers are about all the same at the price range you pay. Tanaka is the top dog here with commercial use followed by Stihl. Homeowner is MTD on the top end followed by Poulan and Stihl.

Got the Kawa 23.5 HP engine. No, not going to throw a temper tandrum. I think I am going to love the mower, just curious more that anything. It was in stock. My dealer in Byram, Mississippi has a full line of Gravely's in stock from homeowner units up to 460's. Great dealer to work with.

Yep, my dealer quoted me his Commercial customer's price in Sept. 2012 when I bought my Gravely. He sold it to me last Summer at the same price he quoted($156), but I think the current MSRP price has increased closer to $200. Still would be worth that!! Comes with "heavy duty cast iron" vacuum baffles that fully enclose each blade(and the right side baffle covers the discharge opening and mulch blades. All-in-all, the best accessory I've purchased(when I'm done mowing you don't see ANY grass clippings on my lawn...and it cut the grass buildup underneath the deck in half).

Djdicetn, how often to you mow your lawn? Here in Chattanooga you just about have to cut twice a week to mulch due to the rapid growth of the fescue grass. Now Bermuda and Zoysia are a different story about once a week on those yards will do.

We had quite a bit of rain early on this Summer(I'm in Mount Juliet), but I've maintained a weekly mowing schedule and it seems to not be too bad after 7 days. I was cutting at 2.5 inches, but recently after adding a striper kit I've increased that to 3"(cutting any shorter didn't give very pronounced stripes). Mine is mostly fescue wit a lot of clover and some crabgrass mixed in:0(
This Fall I plan on doing some serious seeding/feeding and weed control to try getting a pure fescue lawn. I may have to alter my mowing schedule after that.
