I took my mower deck off In the winter to have a little fun, which didn't go to well cause I slid down my slanted Ice glazed driveway and flew Into a snow bank. :laughing: Anyway when I went to put the deck back on, but when I raise the deck to the highest position 6, the brake/clutch stays In when I push It In and I have to pull It out or It won't retract by Itself. And It's hard when your In 5th gear and your trying to pull the clutch out and It suddenly engages and the tractor fly's up In the front. I took the deck back off to see If I put something on wrong and It still do's It. But If I lower the deck to 5 or below It let's go fine but sticks when I raise It to 6, and I don't like having a bald lawn. Thanks It's a WeedEater 259723 with a Briggs & Stratton 12 HP Flat Head engine.

Something with deck hanger is binding against clutch arm or pulley, raise deck all way up and look where clutch peddle goes thru body of mower, follow the arm to pulley and look for something on deck binding on it, you can lower and move peddle and see clutch action.
I'm guessing when you went into snow bank you bent front hanger.

I looked and the deck Is pushing up on the rear brake line. But I looked at the service manual for putting the deck on and It said to raise It to the highest position, but I always had It lowered all the way. So when I get back home tomorrow I will redo It and see If It fixes It.

For that mower you only raise the the mechanism so that it's easier to slide the deck in underneath and get it into position for attaching. Once you're ready to begin hooking everything back up, you once again lower the lifting mechanism. For both removal and installation, it's normally easiest to place a couple of 2x4s on the floor and lower the deck to the boards. This relieves any tension between the deck and lifting mechanism.
