I have been reading the forum for a while now, and picked up some valuable info. I just purchased a 1 3/4 acre lot to build on in 1-2 years. Its a flat rectangle, no trees yet, and somewhat level. I'm in process of having it slightly turtle backed. I will cut the lot myself, before we build and after. Additionally, I have first option to buy the adjacent same size lot, but haven't decided yet. So, I'll have 1 3/4 acres, and potentially 3.5.

I have JD, Gravely, Kubota, and Exmark dealers close by. After visiting all, and dealing with the Gravely dealer in the past, I've settled on a Gravely Pro-turn or PT 100. I enjoy cutting grass, but not for hours. Looking for deck size advice, and if you think the upgrade to the 100 series it worth it for me. I don't want to overdo it.

I like the 52", but will it be enough for my lot, and potentially the second lot? I will be building the house, so gate widths or other clearances won't be an issue.

Good Morning Jmurphy, I think the 52 in. would be the right fit for your new Yard, be it 1.5 ac or 3 + ac. I mow 4 ac. with a JD Lawn tractor w/60 in Deck, but when i get my new mower it will be a ZTR with a 52 in. deck, reason being it will get in tighter places, and the ztr mowes a lot faster then a regular Lawn Tractor, it takes me 3.5 hr. to cut it now i think with a 52 in. ztr i will be able to cut it in 2 to 2.5 hr. now when i finish with the 60 in. mower i have to get on my 46 in Lawn Tractor and do about 15 mins. of mowing in place that the 60 deck cant get to, so by going to a 52 in. ztr i will only need 1 mower, both of my mowers are over 13 years old, i plan to finish out this season unless i have some Major Break down, should that happen i plan to get either a Toro or Ex Mark ZTR, i like the Gravely, but the Dealer is over 30 miles away, the other dealer is only 15 miles away

I bought a 52' Gravely Pro-Turn XDZ100 last September and love it!!!! My first ZTR(and will be my last as I am certain it'll outlive me:0)
I don't think you'll regret getting a Gravely!!!

We just bought a 48" Gravely......and it is perfect.
Think my husband wanted a wider deck, but after he cut grass with the 48" he admitted he was glad we didn't go any wider.
I think the speed difference on the ZTRs are huge compared to the traditional riding mower.
WE have a lot of trees and plants in our yard, but in the spaces that are "lawnmower friendly" the 48" still is terrific.

Only about 1.5 acres.....but I bought this as a "post-retirement investment". I went ahead and invested in the Commercial grade to avoid costly repairs with retirement-level income and to hand down to my son(and most likely grandson) when I'm gone.

I've not been on the forums much over the last week or two(home computer died, just replaced it with a iMac....finally invested in a REAL computer instead of a Windows "box"). Have you put some pictures of that Pro-Turn 48 on the forum yet.....we wanna see it????

Don't know where you are in Louisiana but here in Covington, LA I bought a Grasshopper 723K 3 years ago. I've mentioned many times that Grasshopper is the original inventor of zero turn mowers. All USA made. I believe I made a smart decision. Good luck in whatever you buy. Enjoy!

I mow a rectangle and about the same size along with my yard. I sat around the dealer for a while and then called my wife, then thought some more and I bought the larger deck...AND I AM SO GLAD I DID. If you can afford it, get the bigger deck. IT WILL SAVE YOU TIME...

Stay safe...

Mike
