Hi. New here. Reading various threads, appears there are experienced folks and numerous professionals onboard. Good - I could use a little help.
Have well-maintained Kohler CV730 in little Husq. Suburban tractor that sees limited use for clippings/mulch pickup. Firing up after winter storage, starter ran & turned motor over a few times, then quit. Since then, starter will not energize, but I can hear solenoid click each time ignition switch is turned on and then off again. Since starter was original from '06, I replaced it, but with new starter, same condition persists. Wondering about the Regulator/Rectifier [15 amp]. Is that suspect here?
Only other thing I can think of is ignition switch, but solenoid is sounds like it's working correct, lights work, etc.
I like to work from the starter back to the ignition when troubleshooting this. If you getting a response (click) from the starter solenoid doesn’t mean it’s working. Using a meter check to see if your getting voltage to the starter when key is in cranking position. If no voltage then see if your getting voltage to the solenoid from the ignition. Pull the small wire of solenoid and test it for voltage with key in cranking position. I’m assuming your solenoid isn’t putting enough voltage to the starter....test and let us know.
