Curious how many replace welch plugs when doing a carb rebuild

I've rebuilt hundreds of carbs. Usually don't replace the welch plugs. Curious as to how many do and how many don't. Maybe I should replace them every time????

I replace the welch plugs every time I feel that the carb is so dirty that there maybe dirt under it or in that passageway.

Rivets, Thanks for you response. Can you clarify this for me. I've read that the passageways that the welch plugs cover are the result of drilling when making the carb. Do these passageways also transfer the fuel or air thru the carb?? Thanks much.

That depends on the type of carb and carb manufacturer. Please don't ask me which ones, memory isn't that good any more. Some are what are called casting ports and do not deliver fuel, while others connect passageways.

I have never replaced them and often wondered the same thing.
Rivets, can you give a quick how to?
I've been told to drill a small hole in center and use a nail or something to pry it out. Then press the new one in.

This manual (pages 40-43) shows how to do it better than I can explain it. Same method for all size plugs, just use different size punches.
