Cub Model 71 Refurb

My current project is getting a 1966 Model 71 back up and running.
Earlier this winter I re-powered my 2008 LT1045 removing the unreliable Kohler Courage and installing a Briggs twin cylinder. That went well so I guess it inspired me try another.
My plan is to get the 71 running then take it apart, clean it up and repaint it, and reassemble it.
I live in S.W. Pennsylvania and we are returning to old fashion winters.
I then plan to locate an IH plow and use it exclusively for plowing snow in the winter and pulling a cart around the yard for landscaping in the summer.
I do have a mower deck for it that needs refurbished also but that isn't very high on my list.
It is my hope that the Model 71 is heavy enough that I won't need wheel weights but if they are needed I will add them.
I attached a picture.
My current status is:
Before I started I removed the plug, the compression seems good.
There is oil in it, I will change the oil before I run it for any length of time.
I cleaned the fuel system, tank, lines sediment bowl and carb.
I put on a new plug wire and a new plug.
I reviewed all the wiring cleaning connections and replacing as needed.
I had to remove and clean the ignition switch and the magnetic switch (solenoid) and they are now working.
The starter generator bench tests OK.
I have it turning the engine over.
I cleaned the points and if I lay the plug on the cylinder head I have good spark.
So I have spark and clean fuel in the tank I was hoping to get a couple putt-putts out of it.
I gave it a squirt of starter fluid, closed the choke, and it seemed to spray the fluid back out of the carb.
It does not draw air into the carb, it spits it out.
If I stand in front of the tractor the engine is turning clockwise.
I am looking for suggestions.

Are you sure it is turning clockwise. From the front of the tractor looking at the pto is should turn CCW.

That's what i was thinking. I checked again. If i stand facing the front of the tractor, (the PTO), It turns clockwise.
I seen some things on youtube about setting the polarity of the starter generator. Can this affect the direction of rotation?

Changing the polarity should reverse the starter generator I would think, but it may need to be reversed internally. I know they had starter generator that turned both directions. IH turned one way and some of the JD turned the opposite, because the IH ran off the pto end of the motor, and the JD used a pulley on the flywheel end.

Sounds logical.
I will evaluate that. So the brush that is the field would be wired to the armature and the brush that is the armature would be moved to the field. Is that correct?
The starter is a Delco / Remy model 1101992 Serial 6M15.

From my research on the delco remy starter generator, you have to replace the field for one that is wound to reverse the current flow and reverse the direction of the starter generator. You can't just swap the wires due to some of the wires are not designed for high current flow.

I also found Sears , Bolens and Wheel Horse (Red) used Clockwise starter Generators. Since the one on my cub is Red I bet someone at a point in the past put the wrong starter generator on it.
I bought this tractor from someone who bought it in an auction then never did anything with it. I guess a lot can happen in 50 years.
Do you agree if I bought a cub rebuild kit with new field windings, brushes and bearings and rebuilt the starter that this issue would be resolved?

My understanding is the IH starter has the winding in the opposite direction as the one used on other engines like JD. If you install the winding for the Cub it should turn the correct direction and fix the problem.
