I picked up this Cub cadet for free from a yard sale.. The drive cable and starter rope were broke so I replaced both of them .. It also needed the carb cleaned out and did that and it starts and runs great... HOWEVER.. when mowing and you need to pull backwards it is a struggle.. the wheels do not turn going backward and you have to completely drag it .. The wife does not like that.. I have searched and watched youtube and have found a few similar cases but no resolution.. Any ideas.. Thanks All
I would call 800 number in the morning with model & serial numbers handy. I would also remove rear wheels carefully keeping all parts neat & orderly as you remove them. I would let tailgate on my pickup down & have help placing mower inside bed with a couple pieces of 2x4 under deck to raise deck in rear to facilitate disassembly. Keep right rear parts separate from left rear parts. Let us know what you find, thanks, Mark
More than likely you have set the drive cable too tight. Common problem with Toros, which are adjusted by DIY guys. Post the units numbers so we can see the drive components.
Sorry this site does not tell me when I have new thread posts and I get busy and forget to look... The issue was the ratchet system in the rear wheels ..they for some reason (probably wear) will not naturally ratchet when pulling backwards even though every thing is loose and free.. I know this is not the right fix long term but I lightly coated the pin with axle grease and reinstalled everything and it works great.. I was going to try to sell it but the wife likes it now and said keep it.. Thanks for suggestions and very sorry that I was not prompt in getting back to some..
