Retarded?
How the engine got there I got no idea.

Partially sheared flywheel key throwing the timing off. glowing pipe and muffler isn't totally unusual, but is normally only visible in darker surroundings.

As <ILLENGINE> writes - sheared shaft key.
Well, that's one way, and most likely given what you now post.

And of course I was referring to the engine... neverrrr would I take
such a liberty not having 'met' you before you posted

Go well and Good Luck :)

Oh I "got it" no worries :-D
Those "smilies" the site uses lose something in translation.
ASCII is far more intuitive, for those who know emoticons.

Luck with keeping your neighbour onboard, wishing it works
out for you :)

Well the keyway and flywheel are inplace, the motors pretty dirty so I'l clean it but it got red hot so fast with throttle up maybe its got to much of a replaced carb it was a walbro KLM model there are 3 different KLM models the one that came off had a plastic throttle linkage and the 1 I put on was all metal. the engine did cool when I throttled it down but I can limit the amount of throttle it can get, or if its sucking air between the carb and motor it could cause a increased throttle when I'm giving it gas. as a kid I'd open my points on my motorcycle at night ya could see flames out of my drag pipes it started a grass fire and burnt my m/c to the ground, thanks for your time

Myers, Can you flash an infra red temp gun on the head when the pipe is glowing red? Some of us are collecting heat data. I once had an Audi that glowed. It was a plugged catalytic converter. Thanks

I don't have a infra red temp gun and don't have time to work on the mower today I'm waiting on part delivery today, when I am on it I'll ask around for a temp gauge or something
