I have replaced one of the idler pulleys below the PTO but is still not operating smoothly. Threw the belt again today. I have noticed one of the blade spindles seems "stiff", but turning. Would that stiff spindle cause my pto belt to break or be thrown? All other pulleys seem to be free. Any suggestions?
I don't know if you have electric or manual deck engagement. But if it is a manual deck engagement, that spindle could have a brake on it preventing it from turning.
When a mower comes into the shop with a belt problem, I like to look at the belt to see if there is any damage. Is the inside or outside of the belt scraped, cut, burned, pieces missing, or just pulled in two. All give clues to what to look for.
I did smell burning belt b-4 it came off this time. Before I replaced idler they were just breaking. It is an electric pto. Belt does show damage on outer edges (Burned), but everything seems to turn freely when I took deck off. One of the blades is sluggish, but turning but I would think that would be more of a problem to my deck belt.
