The oil pressure light went on a few days ago after an extended session of pulling a 25 gallon sprayer. Changed the oil and the filter, cleaned the air filter, changed the oil pressure switch to no avail. The machine is about five years old but is not burning oil (so I do not think the rings are worn-out). The light still goes on after start up. What else could be causing the light to go on?

Check the connection on the sensor and the light. Also, there are some machines that were programed wrong and the lights did not reset (go out) until about 2 hours of operation.

Thank you for your reply. Connection between sensor and the light is tight. As for the light staying on for two hours, it begs the question, does one just run the engine for that two hours and see if it goes out? Would that not risk seizing the engine if the sensor was indeed working and there was no oil pressure?

Addendum: Upon investigation (internet search), Rivets is correct in that the light flashes to indicate it is time for an oil change, stays on for two hours of service to remind the operator. Changing the oil and filter does not reset the light, it will go out on its own in two hours. This fact was not mentioned either in the Cub Cadet operator's manual nor the B&S engine manual. Thanks for nothing Cub Cadet and Briggs & Stratton. You could be doing your jobs a whole lot better than you are. Its a no-brainer that the operator should be informed so that he is not led to believe that there is a low-pressure problem when there is not.

A year ago I purchased a 1863 with 1000 hrs. I had bought a new 1863 that now has 2500 hrs. The one I bought had a bad hydro --good I have a good one! The owner had`nt greased the the drive shaft and the splines at the motor end were slipping thats why it would not move! switched decks serviced all started mowing and 2 hrs later the OIL light comes on. This engine sounded great, after checking all things and no answer there since has been 3 good repair shops tear it down and nobody could find the problem. These 1863 had the Kohler 18s and I have $1200 invested in one that was going to replace the original one.
