Just got a used 1541 and there is about 1/2 turn of play in the steering wheel before the linkage starts to react. This makes it look like it is in the steering box itself. Anyone know if or how the steering can be tightened up?

Try tightening up the Tie Rod Ends and the connector from the steering box to the tie rod. If not, You're in for a Steering box Rebuild.

unfortunately those are all good. Nothing on the output side of the steering box moves during the play movement of the input shaft.

on the bottom of the steering colum is the steering box, there is a large stud with aslot in the end and 2 jamb nuts, loosen those nutsand screw the stud in untill you have no play in steering wheel retighten nuts
