I purchased a 1979 8238AE for $10.00. I took it apart because starter road would not retract. I found a broken spring and the needle bearings on the starter pulley were coming apart. I purchased new ones. Cleaned the tank. Cleaned the carb. Put everything back together and it started on the first pull. The electric start did not work. When at the end of mowing the lawn with this new mower I remembered the connection to the starter that I did not connect. Now the electric start works. I am so happy. 34 years old and mows great.

Congrats on the mower! i was about to drive over to Piedmont and get it but its just too far right now with my job. I drove over to Norman and got a commercial self propelled for $50 and then drove to Midwest City and got another non commercial for $40. they both run great! Just glad it went to someone who appreciates good American craftsmanship. Really glad you stuck with the electric start. That was a great price for that unit. I will post pics of the commercial later.
