ZTS 6000 usually won't start. Some days it cranks right up. When the engine turns over the engine starts. On the days it will not start the starter will not turn over engine although it tries to turn over engine. I only try 2 for 3 times because the starter and wires get hot on these "no start" days. Already burned up one starter. Starter, solenoid, and battery are all new and battery is fully charged. The engine always turns over easily with the spark plug out. I thought there might be a compression release valve incorporated in the engine for starting but have not found one. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks...

The first thing I would do is check the valve clearances. Post your engine model numbers and I will find a manual for you.

Thanks for the reply. Engine: Briggs & Stratton Platinum Series, Model #: 331877, Type: 0147 B1, Code: 100331ZD. I looked but couldn't find a manual for that specific engine. The manual I did find (Model # 330000) gave valve clearance as Intake .003 -.005 in and Exhaust .005 - .007 in. I'll adjust them cold and see what happens.

.003 is to close try setting them both at .005 to .006.
