Craftsman Wood Chipper Shredder

I have a Craftsman chipper with 7.5HP Briggs and Stratton. It ran great, but ran out of gas so I filled the tank with new gas. When pulling the starter handle/rope, it pops, sparks coming out of the carburetor and smoke out the muffler. It will not start. I also have fuel coming from the mufler. What is the likely cause?

Sounds like the float needle valve is stuck open. Will have to either try tapping the side of the carb to reseat or remove the float bowl and check to see if it is functioning properly.

Checked float and needle, and both seems to function correctly. After reinstalling the carb, I'm getting resonable trace of fuel on spark plug. Still will not start. Getting sparks out of the carb when pulling start cord. Also has new spark plug.

If you are getting sparks out of the carb, the very first thing I would check is a sheared flywheel key.
