Hi,
I have a craftsman wheeled trimmer that takes two sections of 18" 0.155 line. Suddenly the trimmer head keeps spinning whether or not the lever on the handle is engaged or not. Normally you have to pull the handle towards the main handle to engage the trimmer head, but right now the trimmer head engages and spins as soon as the mower is started.
Any help or troubleshooting would be appreciated.
Thanks

Not knowing what model/Serial you have and assuming that you have not worked on the mower or changed the belt- WHILE MOWER ENGINE IS SHUT OFF look under the mower where the belt tensioner pulley is while reaching up and engaging the lever. Working properly you should see the pulley adding tension to the belt. Possibly a rusted cable, broken return spring or a foreign object wedged somewhere underneath.

Thanks deck-dragger,
I have the 22" 6 hp model 944.361064. I seem to recall a year ago I changed the belt as it broke. There does not appear to be an adjuster on the drive cable as some models have, and engaging the handle does not tension the pulley.
