Kohler Courage 26 HP PS-SV735-0016 in a Craftsman Tractor.

Repeatedly last summer, it stalled out under load and had a lot of trouble restarting when hot. Fuel filter appeared empty every time. Had recently replaced fuel filter and air filter (with matching Kohler parts) in addition to annual maintenance per schedule. Due to this new problem I also replaced the fuel pump & plugs, purchased new non-ethanol gas with stabilizer, and had everything checked by a Kohler "expert dealer" (certified repair shop). Dealer couldn't replicate my problem.

When the same problem occurred this past winter, I consulted the expert dealer by phone and he could only suggest more diagnostic work, but he suspected vapor lock in the carb. Then I finally noticed that when I removed the gas cap, I heard vacuum breaking. So, after getting new gas cap with functioning vent the tractor blew snow for the rest of the winter without further incident.

Now I'm having same trouble as last year. I can hobble along and finish mowing when I remove the engine shroud and give the engine better ventilation.

Thoughts?

Possibly a heat related problem with one of the ignition modules. Cuts out when hot. I am dealing with a similar situation with a scag with the 19 hp kaw engine right now. Except in this case engine runs like crap, and has no power, I can show up an hour later, and start the mower, and then mow for over an hour and never miss a lick. I am suspected a module issue but in this case I have to found out which one.
