Craftsman Riding Lawn Mower Deck

I have a Craftsman Riding Lawn mower. The model number is (917.255430). The problem I am having with the 42 inch cut deck is that the blades do not stop spinning. I did find that the arm idler (the part that keeps the pulley from turning?) is broken. It is the arm idler closest to the discharge. The deck is currently off the mower. I am wondering is this would cause the mower deck to never disengage. But would the other arm idler pulley stop the other blade from spinning. I am not sure if the other blade is spinning. I got this mower as a gift when a family member got a new one. I want to know is replacing the idlers would fix this problem.

Thanks

That is what was missing. The arm was missing the "brake" on the end of the arm that is supposed to stop the pulley. But is that the only problem?

Yes, did you check them on mower deck? Take the cover off so you can see it.

On some models the brake arm has a roller that runs on the idler arm to disengage the brakes when you engage the deck. that plate will get a notch worn into it, and acts like a detent preventing the deck from disengaging.
