I have a Craftsman push mower. It has a B&S Model 550 engine. Horizontal crankshaft.

Model Type Code (These stamped numbers from front of engine)
10T302 37098 070783054

I called B&S and ordered a repair manual with these numbers. "Single Cylinder "L" Head Repair Manual". Built after 1981. Part No. (of manual) 270962-12/03

My mower is about 4 years old. I bought it new.

On one of the front pages there is a column titled "Basic Model Series" which has no numbers close to the Model or Type of my mower. I need to translate the model number on the engine to the one in the manual so I can find the carburetor and governor diagrams for my mower.

Anyone have a suggestion or solution?

Thanks in advance.

10=10 cubic inches displacement
T= basic design
3=horizontal Flo-Jet Carb. Pneumatic Govenor
0= Plain bearing
2= Rewind Starter

Built in 2007. Governor is a single link from the air vane to carb with a small spring pulling in the opposite direction.
