craftsman pressure washer with Honda engine won't run

hey everyone. new guy here. I recently got a old power washer from my father in law and I can not get it to run. it didn't run when I got it from him but I was sure that it was a simle fix. no such luck so far. when I first started to mess with it it would start and putt a few times then die. I tried all kinds of settings with the throttle and choke and the only times I got it to run for a second was on full choke and full throttle. I put a brand new carb on it and still did the same thing. would run for a few seconds then die. tried running it with the air filter off and no difference. changed the plug, put in fresh fuel but no luck. I removed the muffler because I read that it could be causing a problem and surprisingly I got the best results after I removed it. it started up and screamed for about 5 seconds then died. it did this about 3 times and now I can get it to start at all. I took the valve cover off to check the valve to make sure they weren't stuck and they do not seem to be. I am out of ideas. any advice would be appreciated.

How about the model number, prefix, serial number and suffix off of the engine which are stamped into the flat spot on the block.. The model number can be tricky sometimes. The numbers that are stamped into the block can be used to determine model number in most cases.

On some units they used a dot type print to put the numbers on the block and can be hard to read sometimes.

Number should be located on a flange just behind or below the blower housing on the GC or GCV engines or stamped into the lower part of the crankcase on a flat spot of the block.
