Hi All,

I have a Craftsman trimmer mower model 917.773720. It has a Briggs & Stratton 6.25 engine. It starts fine but runs at a high rpm when started. I have replaced the carb but problem still persists. Please advise!

If it is truely too fast then most likely the governor is not connected right or is not working. You can get an app for your smart phone that gives RPM from sound waves to tell you what the actual RPM is.

Mechanical governor. If connected correctly try doing a static governor adjustment.

I fixed it! It was a governor bent in the wrong direction. It took me a while to find a similar engine with a properly positioned governor. www.briggsandstratton.com were no help. They claimed to not have have any photos or diagrams of my engine ASSEMBLED. Thanks to Sgkent and Star Tech for your assistance and attention. The attached photo is the repaired image of my engine.

I usually hear from any Tech "Help": no one has ever had that issue before. Like with the replacement AC line for my 1998 Frontier, different depth of fitting, only 5.5mm different !!!!
