A the Briggs model 4456 77 2188 GS (Craftsman Platinum 724CC) engine made loud pop, then a small amount of gray smoke came out of the exhaust. Now the engine run loud. Checking the spark plugs I found one cylinder fouls the spark plug with oil, the compression on this cylinder show 150 psi, the opposite cylinder reads 170 PSI and does not foul the spark plug with oil. Any ideas on what has happened?

check oil level on dipstick, make sure on full mark, if overfull does it smell like gas? i prefer using high test gas with a quality fuel treatment per directions on bottle.

Thanks for your response, the oil is clean and just slightly below full. When I replaced spark plug with a new one, then ran the engine the plug was covered with black soot and wet with gas.
