craftsman mod.#2900 what hp is it?

just bought a craftsman riding mower mod.#2900, 30" cut 6 forward speeds. There is no information about the engine at all. There is a decal on the engine housing says MTD....420cc Would that be about 12hp? You cannot cut in reverse.If you put it in reverse with blade engaged, it kills the engine.(kill switch located by shift lever) Not anything about carb adjustment. I guess I'm just use to briggs & Stratton engines. If anyone knows about this engine I would appreciate you sharing it with me.

I suspect you have the MTD made engine on your mower. it is about 14.5 hp. MTD hasn't has any large problems with any of there engines that they make. They are coming out with a 18 hp model this year for some of the bigger mowers, as well as use on troybilt, and CC.

Pretty much the same China engine that size used by Toro as well. Copy of the old Honda. Those little mowers have been fairly well liked. They are a handy size. They do not cut in reverse for safety reasons. If you look in around the shift lever you can see how it works.
