I am trying to get a craftsman lt2000 running. The model number is 917273130. I have changed the fuel filter, air filter, oil filter, and spark plug. When i turn the key the engine turns over but does not start. There seems to be compression based on what i hear. The spark plug is good but is not getting spark, and when i take the plug out there is fuel on it so the fuel is getting to the engine. I am thinking it may be the fly wheel key messing up the timing but am not sure. Any suggestions?

I would check the coil.......... Sheared flywheel key would still produce a spark, it would be out of time.

Check the coil and also the kill wire/switch.

Ok i will check them , it ran for a while, then the engine started running bad, the gas was low so i figured it was running out so i turned it off filled it up and it wouldn't start back up. When i checked for spark it sparked once, but then stopped sparking but i have tried new plugs so it is not the plug.

If I suspect a bad coil I take it to a local engine repair shop and they have a tester as I don't have one... After reading EngineMans attachment maybe I need to get one.

I fixed it the problem was a wire to the coil lost insulation and was hitting the engine and created a shortage , taped it up and it started right up. thanks for your help.
