Is there any inside or outside wear, or just getting pulled in two.

Release the tension off the idler pulley and see if you can pull the belt around by hand (you should be able to). Remove your pulley safety covers so you can look at the pulleys when you turn the belt. Check to make sure the belt is not riding too deep in one of the pulleys causing the belt to grab and snap. You do have the proper thickness deck belt, correct?

check to if its rubbing on the belt guides sometimes when u put a thicker belt on it will rub on the brackets and guides that keep the belt in place
