Hey guys, I just purchased a Sears Lawn Spader,, tiller. It is an older model with the 8 HP Briggs engine and the High/ Low/ Reverse gearbox. I am wondering what type of gear oil to use in the transmission, and how much should be in there. My first instinct is to fill it up until it comes out the filler plug,, but that seems like too much... is someone familiar with this equipment?

Post model number please. Gearbox should have 3 plugs, top for filling, bottom for draining, and third about 3/4 up from bottom. Remove this plug as well as top plug, add fluid to top plug hole until it runs out plug close to topside, reinstall plugs.

Hey Mark,, thanks for replying,, it is model number 917.295581, and I only see the one plug on the transmission housing,, I will take a better look in the sunshine tomorrow, but I think there is just one about midway up.. don't even see a drain to get the old out.
