Craftsman Engine Swap Out - Starter Getting Super Hot !

Bought a USED Craftsman LT2000 Tractor for my Father for FATHERS DAY. The Original Tractor came with a 17 HP Engine Model #917.273140 - the original engine blew so it was replaced with a 20 HP Kohler V-Twin Engine by original owner. Problem now is that after the motor starts the starter stays engaged and makes a terrible noise. There is a constant 12 Volts on the starter even after shutting off the engine and the starter gets super hot. I've already replaced the ignition switch with a NEW one. Seems to be a wiring issue or something. I've replace the internal fork in the starter since it was burn't up and melted so the starter is working properly but still making a horrible noise. Was thinking maybe putting a couple spacer washers on starter and block but that would not explain the starter still getting SUPER HOT. Is there anything else I can try? Anybody out there have the same problem or do you think the wiring harness is not compatible with this engine. Looks like the previous owner cut and bypassed the blue wire that links to the wiring harness with the main RED "HOT" Wire. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Don't know what else to try? Maybe relays?????

The NEW Motor is a Kohler Pro V-TWIN 20HP -
Family: 1KHXS.6242GC
Display: (cc) 624

Perhaps the solenoid is stuck "on" and is pouring 200 amps to the starter. You have an arc welder there.

Isn't the solenoid on the Starter? If so, if I unhook the starter and solenoid there is still 12 Volts still registering on the the Hot Wire leading to the starter solenoid without ignition switch on. Got me puzzled. We actually could add a switch in line to the Hot wire to cut the power after it starts but want to find the issue and not rig it.

P.S. - I do have a arc welder (why)? What do you have in mind?

the solenoid is not on the starter its under the dash or on one of the side panels under the cowl

Blaiser, sorry to confuse you...what I meant is that a stuck solenoid will not turn off the heavy current sent to the starter to crank the engine. For an instant that current is like the high current sent to an electric arc welder. Please do not bring your welder into play here. Good luck.
