Does the mower also die if you release the brake pedal. If so, then most likely problem is with the seat switch, or the associated wiring. If it keeps running with pedal released, then try removing the deck belt, and then engage the pto and see if it keeps running. If it keeps running with the deck belt removed, then inspect all the pulleys and spindles for anything binding.
