Mower has been a problem the last couple of years for my dad and we have just changed the fuel pump and were able to have the mower run now for long enough to mow the ditches that he wants to mow with this mower. What we found when done though was that the oil breather pushed out quite a bit of oil to the fuel pump area. Also my dad did not get the oil cap on straight the first time we started it and it blew oil out the top.
Is this a sign that the bottom end is not long for this world? New plugs, oil, fuel pump and fuel filter. Ran perfect, but when done, saw the oil.
Thoughts.

It would be the 'top end' that might be causing excess crankcase pressure. Worn piston, rings, valves, or valve guides let combustion gasses into the crankcase.
But that may not be the problem, either. It could be your crankcase ventilation system, especially if this is a single cylinder engine.
