Help!!!
I bought a very used Craftsman 917.258572 last summer. Changed the blades, oil and air filter last season. This year changed the cracked fuel line and fuel filter. (Runs much better now)... Anyway, the problem is this:
As I'm mowing with the blades engaged, I will notice it sounds quieter, but I can see the blades are still turning, at least enough to move the grass next to the discharge. But when I look behind me the cut is crap!!! And if I stop and wait a minute the noise will increase back to normal and then the cut is good again. This happened some last season but almost continually this season. It also helps if I turn the blades off and back on...
I'm just a 50 year old woman trying to get by with this old mower.... Could the deck belt need replaced?
Thanks so much.

See troubleshooting section in manual, and yes the deck belt might be worn and slipping.
