Craftsman 54 inch lawnmower tractor

My lawn mower suddenly won't start. When I turn the key the starter engages but the motor doesn't turn anymore It made some clanking sounds before it wound up at this point. Any idea what may have gone wrong? Also how would I go about fixing it?

Folks here can't help without some info. about the engine .......... make, model, serial # etc.
might want to pull the plugs & fan screen ........ try to roll it over by hand , check to see if the belt pulley is obstructed , check the oil level... could be a starter gear .....get back with the info. .. Boobala
