Hello. Bought mower that hadn't been run in 8 years. Not due to a problem but death of owner. It has a 2010 manufacturing date. I bought this for $30 as a project to learn Looked to be barely run. I rebuilt carb, replaced spark plug, changed oil, filters. I couldn't get to start until I bypassed and jump started the starter.
I figured the blades were not disengaging with the lever which was why the key wouldnt start it. I took the deck off and tried again. Still nothing. Must be something electrical too right?
I located the solenoid underneath the seat but have no idea how i would get to it to test? Also, where are the switches for the blade engagement so I can test those too?
Hmm. I was more looking for help diagnosing the problem and what part than a list of every part on the mower.

The solenoid is a simple switch, that can handle a large electrical load to the starter, so one big terminal goes to the battery, and the other big terminal goes to the starter. Also on the big terminal to the battery, is another ring terminal, that sends current to the key switch, through a fuse, before reaching the keyswitch, and another terminal on the keyswitch, sends current through some safety switches, to the small terminal on the bottom of the solenoid when the key is turned to the start position.

Some mowers use a solenoid that has 2 small terminals on the bottom, which work the same, but the other terminal goes to a ground to make the switch work, often through a safety switch as well.

So if you have a simple test light, it is pretty easy to run things down,
but find and check the fuse first.
