Craftsman 22" wheeled trimmer

Hi,

I have a craftsman wheeled trimmer model number 944.361064 with a B+S 6hp motor. The belt kept coming off so I took the mower apart and found that the bearing seems to have come out of the housing....see pic. My question is can I re-use this bearing and press it back in, or should I replace it with a new one? Is this a common problem?

Thanks

The bearing is most likely fine, if it turns smoothly. My question would be why did it come out. What holds the shaft from the bottom.

Here's the parts diagram....the shaft terminates in a ball that does not turn with the hub, and it's held on by a nut.

So either the nut has come off,or the bottom bearing in the spindle housing has failed.

Thanks Ilengine....the problem is the bolt at the bottom of the ball is seized....tried everything including an impact to loosen it but no go, so I can't get at the assembly to check that lower bearing.....any ideas as to how to remove it....I don't think it's ever been taken out?

Worked on just that exact model last year. Bolt broke off, and the shaft was so rusty and pitted, ended up replacing the shaft, bearings, string holder assembly. this one was in bad shape when it came in.

Try a cheater bar about three feet or so. I know its hard to get the space to do it but it is better than a impact in my opinion.
