Any one know how to convert the computer controlled push key start to an old style key start On my Cub RZT SX mower. Starter always spins engine but will not start often times without multiple tries, the engine may shut down at random. I have replaced the computer did not solve problem. I don't think it is a safety switch problem I only have to remove the key and push again and again till it starts. The engine should run on it's own Magneto power supply there fore I think there's a ground problem caused by the computer circuit?? Mower only has 90+ hrs. on it works well when running but I am fed up with this engineering blunder.

Hello Olddrivers,

I would recommend you take it to an authorized dealer, that has someone trained on this design. That will be a challenge all by itself, because training in small engine shops and even the dealers is almost non-existent.

Probably the best solution is to get the actual repair manual for your model then study the system. Possibly talk with and experienced automotive mechanic who has electrical testing experience and they can help you. All of this new electronics is way over the heads of most small engine techs.

Systems on these newer designs are not made where they can be rigged or bypassed like the old ones. Due to ethics and liability, I cannot even make suggestions other than get the repair manual (not the operators manual) and test it yourself with a few basic tools like a test light and a multi-meter.
