I recently ordered and received a replacement coil but the mounting holes won't match up to engine. Is it advisable to drill mounting holes on coil to accommodate?

You have received the wrong coil.

The correct coil is one of the following:
802574 ARMATURE, Magneto

Thanks for reply Star Tech. Everything I'm looking at says part number 590454 for that model number. Am I doing something wrong?

Coil 802574 supercedes to 590454. My question, does your old coil have a metal or rubber boot. If it has a metal boot use coil 590455.

802574 supercedes to 590454 and to the OP I think you have the correct part number but somebody sent the incorrect part. The 695711 part number on your supeceded part number list is not the same coil as the rest of the numbers on the list.

Yes that is the superseded pn but on some engines that coil doesn't have the correct holes as you can see the image of the older part.

And Rivets I saw that too on the PNs. Actually the 695711 (supersede to 796964) actually looks more like the older 802574 coils.
