my gap on my briggs 17.5 ohv engine is at 00.4 can some one let me no what it should be.mice chewed the coil wire and some one put electrical tape on it and I have no spark.i cleaned up the coil and flywheel

The easiest way I adjust the air gap is to take 2 match book covers, center the magnet between the two legs of the coil and put the match book covers between the magnet and the coil. Then just tighten the screws.
The magnet is usually the highest thing on the flywheel. Someone may have set the coil to just the gap to the flywheel and not to the coil.

The gap for my Intek 24 is .010. They say a business card will work. I use a cut piece of plastic which miked about .010." Strange to us but repeatedly it is stated rust causes no problem on the fly magnets. I did have some "kissing" of the coil pickup onto the fly magnets. Not good. The torque for the 2 hold down screws is only 5 inch pounds and one side of the pickup still seems to move over time.
