I have a old-ish lawnmower that kept stalling, so I took the carburettor out and gave it a really good clean, it runs a lot better now. Though it only seems to run on the choke, it may be something to do with the spare spring I have. Any idea where it goes?

You have the choke spring wrong way round.
The long straight part of spring should be on the choke shaft on carb and the spring side should connect to small hole on linkage that connects to shaft that pushes choke over.
