I have a Snapper mower that has a Briggs & Stratton #099772311101. The choke shaft/lever broke off on top of carb. I ordered & received a new one(finally after waiting 3 wks). I got the carb butterfly out, took out the broken shaft, & replaced with the new no problem. It's been so long since I tore it apart, I can't remember where the choke spring attaches. Here are some pics. Hoping someone can highlight where each end of the spring goes. I am holding it above the carb with needlenose pliers. Many thanks.

Show us a pic of the air filter base assy. The spring likely holds the choke flap open and the base has a lever/notch that closes it when the cable tells it to do so.

Scratch that... Looks like all of that beat up/bent metal in the pic does that job but I still say that the spring pulls the choke flap open when the cable says so.....

So hook the long end into the notch in the choke lever and look about........
