Any of you have any experience with the Scag Cheetah mowers?

They advertise speeds up to 16 MPH.

I have ridden on one. They will fly, but even the slower Turf Tiger won't cut evenly at top speed. The benefit of the Cheetah's very high top speed would be if you were in a subdivision and had several yards, you could drive the mower from one to the other without having to load and unload.

The Cheetah I road on did have a very nice driver suspension system and would have been more comfortable at speed on rough terrain.

Like said before 16MPH is for transport speed. To me about 8 mph is about as fast as you can go and get a decent cut. But it also depends on the look you are going for.

The cheetah has zt5400 hydros, just like several other brands out there. There is a high range lever on zt5400 hydros that will make any mower that has them go 16 mph. Scag just utilizes that feature. the cheetah won't mow that fast. As you well know commercial ztr mowers have a bts between 18000 and 19000 fpm. Even though that's considerably faster than a residential lawn tractor, there is still a limit to how fast the mower can go and leave a decent cut. Between 8 to 10 mph is as fast as any of these mowers are going to be able to go and leave a good cut. There is some variance such as, type of grass, height of the grass, type of blades, sharpness of blades, baffles under the deck, etc. the velocity deck on the scag does cut great and if the lawn is mowed weekly it can mow well in the 10 mph range With the type of grasses in my area and leave a nice cut though.

Thanks,

We are currently running two Tiger Cats with the 52" decks and Kawasaki engines.they are doing an excellent job. At 200 and 400 hours we have not seen any down time with either.

We were actually running Kubota mowers. We had a ZD 326 with a 60" deck. It had over 600 hours on it and basically was just broke in. We also were running a ZG 222 with a 48" deck. Last summer we needed a third mower so our dealer let us demonstrate a Scag. I was shocked at how much better it handled and how much better the Velocity deck would cut stemmed grass. I immediately bought a Tiger Cat with a 52" deck and the Kawasaki engine. This spring I traded the ZD 326 in and bought the second one identical to the first one. Probably next year I will get rid of the ZG 222 and get a third Tiger Cat. I have not run a lot of different mowers because of the area we live there are not dealers a lot of them like Gravely, and Dixie Chopper. However Scag I think would be hard for any of them to beat.

I have had the pleasure of running several different brands and have found they are all good mowers. Each brand does have some features that make them a little different. I actually don't have experience with gravely, and just a little experience with dixie chopper (enough to know their slogan is a lie). One guy in our area uses dixie chopper for his business. I don't have a favorite brand, however, I do have a list of mowers you could call favorites. The scag cheetah is one of them. I do like the turf tiger and the tiger cat though. I have found that the velocity deck cuts wet grass and clover extremely well compared to other brands. I also like the ferris is3200 and is2100, the hustler super z and xone, exmark laser z, snapper pro s200xt and s150xt, country clipper boss and charger, john Deere 900 series, and the new kubota ztr mower line. Have you looked into the new z700 series kubota mowers? They are awesome machines as well. The z726 is a great mower.

I have looked at the Kubota z726. All of the Kubotas have basically the same deck. The Velocity deck is incredible..

I bought a 61"V deck Cheetah last year with the 27 hp Kawasaki motor. It has performed flawlessly but I only have about 40 hours on it so far. I think low range is good to about 11mph and is the fastest I think I could ride it on my yard. I probably go about 8 to 10 mph most of the time. It cuts well.

It has a nice seat and suspension for it, but I really think 16 mph is silly. It is a speed to run to get gas or to the next job. Mine I use to cut 3 acres. Takes me about 1.5 hours. Yard looks nice.

My 2 cents. I wish it was quicker and easier to adjust heights of the mower deck. The manual says to stop and make the adjustment. I cant move the pin while bouncing across the yard, so I just stop. My Sears mower will adjust height easily on the fly.

The mower height lever is hard to push with my foot. Even harder, if not impossible, for my wife.

Still, I am glad I bought it. I hate to mow and the Cheetah makes it easy and fast. My dealer in Burleson Texas has been excellent.
