Hi,
New guy here with a 5 hp horizontal shaft from the middle 80’s with a bad carb. This is one of the units that is integral with the fuel tank. My engine is a model 130212 type 1731-01. The carb on it has two nylon pick up tubes and I believe is model number 299437. A new item is about $100 which is twice what I paid for this MTD leaf blower.

My question is whether the somewhat similar model carburetor # 498298 which has only one nylon pick up tube could be substituted for the original? There are Chinese knock offs available for about $20 which is more in line with the value of this machine.

Descriptions of these two carbs suggest that they are both used on this series of engines.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Thanks Boobala,
I wasn’t able to find a rebuild kit for the original carb. I will track down the kit and will let you know how it turned out.

Thanks,

Some of the briggs engines of that style didn't have a carb repair kit. you have to purchase all the required parts to repair separately.
