I have a Murray push mower with a 5 hp techumseh motor on it. I hit the primer a couple times and it starts right up as usual but then shuts down right away like it runs out of gas. It won't start again til I hit the primer a couple of times again. I took the carb off, everything was clean, the float and needle worked good. I would have rebuilt it but there is no rebuild kit for this carb. The bowl has fuel in it as soon as it shuts down and it has a new air filter on it. I'm kind of stumped on this one, am I over looking something? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Just wondering if your primer bubble has a pin hole in it and is it leaking air, or are the setting not set right. Will it run if you keep putting a little gas down the carb.Do you have the float bowl so the float falls down to the lowest part of the bowl? Not trying to be a smart a$$ just asking, thing to look at. Good luck:confused2:
You probably have a blocked main jet, or possibly a blocked
float needle. Pop off the float bowl, lift float to see if fuel stops,
remove main jet with small flat screwdriver, it's located inside
centre tube above the float bowl bolt. Blow it out, don't poke
wire through as any scoring will upset mixture. Also check delivery
holes in the centre bowl bolt, they should be clear to feed the
jet. If the float needle is blocked, not letting fuel through when
the float is down, slide out pivot pin, remove float with needle
and clear obstruction, best done with air again, but you should
first remove fuel line from carb to remove any debris. Use a cotton
bud from both sides, also wipe the needle point to clean it before
reassembly. Make sure float bowl o ring is seated properly before
reassembly too.
The model# to this 5hp tecumseh premier motor is TVS115 61621B. The float and needle are clean and work properly. The bowl gasket is in rough shape, I think its sealing but it is deteriorated somewhat. I was told there is no rebuild kit for this carb, so I can't replace the gasket. The mower does run awhile at idle, but dies when you give it throttle. The primer does have a hole but I don't think its through, it has a hole by design. Thanks for the replies guys, any other help would be apprieciated.
