I have a troy built tiller with BS engine 135292-1158-e1. It hasn't been used that much but doesn't run well at all. Hard to start, then runs only with chock partially on and only at high speed. Will not idle. Seems as though it is starving for fuel. Worked well in the past.
I took the pulsa jet carburetor apart after reading another post about a 4hp engine with similar carburetor. Has a great website posted by "BRIGS" member that walks you through the carburetor. I replaced the pump diaphragm and the gasket between the engine and the tank. Cleaned the carburetor the best that can without pulling out all the welch plugs and ball plugs. This carburetor is very difficult to work on at best. It seems most of the passages are internal or out of the site and reach of being able to put air pressure or small wires to clean them. Almost everything is inaccessible.
I pulled out the jet on the side of the carburetor; it is slightly different from the website in the fact that it is a fixed jet that screws into the body and not a needle that is adjustable. At least I don't see how it could be adjustable. It's a hollow tube with two small holes in the sides connected to a threaded stem. (someone might be able to explain more )
There has got to be a way of getting this carburetor, cleaned better.
I will have access to an ultrasonic cleaner in about a week, but I haven't had much better result from them than I do by cleaning with air pressure, very small wires, and very selective placement of carburetor cleaner. Maybe I'm using the wrong cleaning fluid. What type should or could be used?
Any help or past experience on getting this clean and workable again would greatly be appreciated.
Rex
