I have a Tecumseh hm80 mounted on a John Deere 826 snowblower the carb was rebuilt about two years ago. I just got it this past winter and it seems to have something out of line with valves or carb. It runs bad until under load could it be the carb or valves? And how do you fix it?
I would start by rebuilding the carb first. It is much easier and cheaper than going after the valves. Have not seen many problems with the valve train on those SnowKing engines.

How do you adjust the carb? Because it has not been used since the carb was rebuilt it was my grandpas and nobody else in the family wanted it because it needed work.
If it is the carb I'm thinking of it is easy. Initial adjustment is 1&1/2 turns out after lightly seated on the high speed needle. (the one on the bottom of the carb). Initial adjustment is 1&1/4 turns out after lightly seated on the idle speed needle. (one on the side of the carb). Start the engine and set the throttle at high speed and turn the high speed needle in until the carb starts to bog down, then out 1/4 turn. Next bring it down to idle and the adjust the idle needed in until it starts to bog down, then out 1/8 turn. You may have to play with the idle speed screw to get a good idle speed. After you feel you have it right double check the needles again, until you feel comfortable with the settings.
