What causes the gas jell up like jelly in a carb on Briggs and Stratton engine. Last summer I replaced carb sat all winter. Went to start it this year(early spring) started up ran fine so instead hitting stop switch I turned the fuel shutoff valve to off and let it cut itself off. Went out month later and it would start. I removed carb bowl and found little pieces of what looks like to be jelly inside. So cleaned it out and it runs fine again. So when I shut it off this time I hit stop switch then turn the fuel shutoff valve to off. I been using Star Tron small engine formula 8 oz bottle to 5 gallon plastic gas can. Always buy regular gas from the Shell station for all my gas engines from mowers to auto.

Simple answer, old gas. Today's fuels start to break down after 30 days and if you let the fuel (especially if it contains ethanol) sit for long period it will jel, corrode, gum and do weird things in the carb. Most additive don't help that much after 60 days.

Star tron will keep gas for up to 2 years. I didnt even change the gas to get it running again.
