A spin-off thread from my 10HP tecumseh thread.. Is there any way to tell if your breather is bad? How exactly do they work? Mine is like a 1.25" x 3" or so metal box that houses a part that I can push in and out a little bit. I am quite surprised how much oil can escape through this unit. I can only imagine it is filling the breather box with oil, then spewing the oil out once full.

Export threadSome/most breathers have a built in check valve allowing the vapors to only travel one way and that is out. They also have a defuser to catch the oil droplets in the vapor and return them into the crankcase
