A spin-off thread from my 10HP tecumseh thread.. Is there any way to tell if your breather is bad? How exactly do they work? Mine is like a 1.25" x 3" or so metal box that houses a part that I can push in and out a little bit. I am quite surprised how much oil can escape through this unit. I can only imagine it is filling the breather box with oil, then spewing the oil out once full.

Some/most breathers have a built in check valve allowing the vapors to only travel one way and that is out. They also have a defuser to catch the oil droplets in the vapor and return them into the crankcase

Hmm, wonder what the possibility of the diffuser getting gummed up and not letting the oil return would be?
