My father-in-law is 87. Trying to find him a small gas push mulching mower for trimming only. Self-propelled is out ,to much pulling backwards and heavy. Mtd has a 20" but is side discharge only. He mows often so I thought if he's only taking off an inch maybe blocking off the discharge might work and for extra maybe could find a 20" mulching blade. I know Lawn-Boy has a 20" self-propelled mulcher if the blade would swap, or maybe can find a generic. Anyone tried this? Thanks, Gatorblade

Lawnboy has a push mower with that same engine. I've got a newer lawnboy push mower but it's the one with the B&S engine. I really like it though. It's made well and pushes easy.

I know troy bilt has a 21" push mower with mulching blade and plug ( have one sitting out back going to sell to my sister in law)

Thanks exotion and OutdoorEnvy for the info. I'll be looking at Toro and Lawnboy push mowers today. Well kept lawn and landscape exotion! OutdoorEnvy, do you live near Tuttle, OK? Our friends the Macks moved from Indiana to Tuttle when Western Electric moved their from Indianapolis IN. Gatorblade

Pretty close, about 20-25 mins away. I'm in south OKC/Moore area

The smallest light-weight push mower found so far is a MTD 20" side discharge. Weighed about 40lb. The store clerk at Homedepot said if I blocked off the discharge it would preform like a mulcher. The only 20"mulcher I found was Lawnboy, but weighd in at a whopping 70lbs. Told my Father-in-law there are some rope wind 18" classics on EBAY with the round gas tanks on top of motor. Ha! Gatorblade
