Hi Troops,
Initially was just going to replace the blades, but while removing the collection blower I noticed that its belt was bad and while changing the belt I noticed that the blower shaft bearings were both bad. I keep the belts in stock, but not the bearings. While I was at it I removed the pump belt idler and tensioner pulleys and lubricated them, inspected the drive belt, still looks good. Local Scag dealer had the blower bearings in stock, I installed them and lubricated the pulleys. I have a set of bearing regreasers that I used on aircraft flight control bearings and they work great on most pulley bearings, just need to clean up the bearings before pumping grease into them.
I will say this about Scag and my local dealer, if any components have a higher than normal failure rate they do something about it quickly. Hour meters, collection blower bearings, and some belts have turned out to have a high failure rate and Scag had responded by upgrading these parts in their supply system fairly quickly. My local Scag dealer has an agressive parts department which orders in the latest upgraded parts when they become available. They have a large commercial operator base and lots of Scag machines in the field.
I just checked the lube chart for the collection system and it calls for 8 hour lubrication intervals of the blower bearings and Mad Mackie has been lacking in this area so I will need to scold him!!!!:laughing::laughing:
I also checked the airgap on the electric clutch and it was good.
Now with new blades you know that while mowing I will hit something fairly soon and mess up at least one blade!!!!!:frown::frown::frown:
