Building one's own mower

I've never had the kind of mind that could put together a mower from scratch. I wonder if the practical skills are something you are born with as well as the imagination and drive. So long as you're not trying to sell them I am sure there are no restrictions, though I'd want to be sure the thing was really safe before I used it!
 
JDGreen and KennyV, I want to end up exactly just like you: Retired, Busy and Happy!

I got stung by the image of my own father, that's all. It's why I'm happy to relate with people who see retirement much differently.
